Who Hit His First Homerun Off Cy Young? Fughedaboutit!
Yes, Con Daily, when he played in Brooklyn! On July 5th, top of the 5th inning, while playing for Brooklyn Bridegrooms (now Los Angeles Dodgers) against Indianapolis, in Indianapolis. This was one of only two home runs that Con hit his entire career. He was not a power hitter. But boy, oh boy, to have hit a homer off Cy Young is pretty special. Here is more info from BaseballReference.com.

Con Daily in the Metropolitan Museum of Art
I am so proud today. I have written many articles in my career but I am especially excited about my article that appears today in today’s Boston Globe. http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/travel/2013/07/13/metropolitan-museum-art-new-york-celebrates-baseball-with-its-legends-dead-ball-era-exhibit/AhkiuUBfUVXHAyZwdyErSP/story.html
It is a tribute to baseball, to the All-Star Game, to NYC, to my favorite baseball pub, Foley’s. But, more importantly, it is such an honor to include my great-grandfather, Cornelius (Con) Daily, in the article. Con is part of the 30,000 baseball card collection and, while not part of the current Dead Ball exhibit (the photo cap is wrong) he is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s prestigious baseball card collection. I salute you Con, and love you very much.
If you get a chance, visit the Museum to see the Legends of Baseball exhibit, hit up Foley’s for a beer and, hole up in the Hotel Belleclaire for a night (this is where Babe Ruth once lived.)
Baseball lives on in our hearts forever.
Baseball and Bullying
Babe’s best friend and teammate, Gonzalez, is being bullied, so Babe steps up to the plate (pun intended.) Oh, and yes, Babe’s parents named him after Babe Ruth. Catcher in the Sky is more than just a fabulous baseball read for middle-grade kids–it also tackles diversity and bullying. And it’s gotten great reviews, too (very grateful for that, thank you!) Bullying is such a heartbreaker for kids and it’s really important to reach the bystanders and friends of the kids who are being bullied to get them to help, not look away. It takes bravery but it’s cool to help, and so not cool to look the other way. It is my hope that Catcher in the Sky helps! http://www.amazon.com/Catcher-in-the-Sky-ebook/dp/B00AFKTTOShttp://www.amazon.com/Catcher-in-the-Sky-ebook/dp/B00AFKTTOS
Thank you Mariano Rivera
Mariano Rivera will be honored before today’s Yankees game. He is the perfect example of a player who is as awesome on the field as off the field. A true Yankees hero and wow, will we miss him! Here’s to you Mariano! Thank you for setting a great example for our young boys and girls. And good luck this season!

Came across these great new pics of my great-grandfather, Con Daily, who played for many teams, including the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, who are now the Brooklyn Dodgers. Cool, right?
Huge Night for NYC–Hang on Yankees Fans
Okay, so here’s the bad news. There’s a rain delay in Detroit, Michigan for Game 4.
And, now, the good news. It’s not snow. I mean we’re talking Michigan in October for God’s sakes. It could be snow.
If ever a stadium needs a dome, it’s in the Midwest, right? Anyway, hang on, fans. Think of excuses now to call in late for work tomorrow. It’s going to be a late one!
